Could Extra Virgin Olive Oil Help Failing Hearts?

By Michael Robert Peterson

Heart health is one of those concepts which can be affected by various actions. For example, if someone were to exercise more often, chances are that their heart would be positively affected. It's also worth noting the importance of cholesterol and how such a substance can be maintained through proper eating. When it comes to dieting, especially when it relates to a potentially unhealthy heart, extra virgin olive oil deserves to be covered.

There was an article on TIME that spoke about extra virgin olive oil and how it could, potentially, ail a heart that isn't in the best of shape. In fact, Circulation - a medical journal, for those not in the know - detailed how this type of oil could work against the impact of heart failure. This is important to note, since a condition like this can lead to difficulty in regards to the pumping of blood and the size of the heart itself. To say that this is a critical component is an understatement and companies the likes of Unaprol will not say differently.

During this particular study, as illustrated by TIME, the hearts of rats were examined and two different types of fat were given to them. On one side was oleate, which is typically associated with different types of oil, olive and canola included. However, the other type of oil has been classified as palmitate, which is characterized mostly by animal and dairy products. Once the study was concluded, there were surprising results and they are ones that no nutritionist should overlook.

It's been said that the hearts given the substance of palmitate were ones that ultimately looked like failing hearts. However, there were far more positive readings to be had from the hearts which were treated to oleate, since the product in question was healthier. It's been said that the fat content of those hearts were restored, which allowed them to function to the levels expected of them. With greater metabolic levels and all, the hearts seemed to favor oleate more.

To say that extra virgin olive oil can provide a tremendous boost would be an understatement. This is especially true once you start to understand the various aspects it contains, from the antioxidants to help bolster immune systems to the monounsaturated fats the body can actually utilize. Regardless, a product like this can stand to help the heart, regardless of the shape it is in. Once it is used over a consistent basis, its benefits will become that much clearer.
