What Does Organic Protein Powder Mean To You

By Janine Hughes

For anyone interested in muscle strength and development, such as athletes, bodybuilders and any other regular gym goers, protein powders are part of the staple foods. This powder is known to aid in muscle repair and muscle growth after an intensive training. In addition to muscle building, some of the powders also come with extra benefits such as supplementing the minerals and vitamins. However, there are questions as to whether organic protein powder is just as good as the conventional non-organic varieties or better.

Any food product that is naturally grown is that one that comes from as natural conditions as possible. This might be difficult to find as natural conditions only exist in protected forest. However, it is still possible to grow plants to maturity without using any of the chemicals such as pesticides, fungicides, synthetic fertilizers, ionizing radiations, or using the scientific techniques like the genetically modified organisms (GMO). For animals, the major concerns are the growth hormones and antibiotics. Absence of any traces of the said chemical compounds in the food products makes them natural.

Generally, there are three labels you should look for in food products and drinks. The first is 100% organic. This simply indicates that the product is 100% natural. It contains no element of inorganic compounds like pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, hormones, ionizing radiations, and is not grown through the genetically modified organisms (GMO).

The main advantage of natural protein is that they offer the essential ingredients to the body without introducing the unnatural substances found in antibiotics, fertilizers, and pesticides into the body. As such, there are healthier options as compared to similar products that are not natural.

Although these products results from animals that are not fed with growth hormones and other substances considered being non-natural, they are not less in nutritional value. In fact, they are said to taste better, unlike the conventional ones that are said to have a chalky and bitter taste resulting from excess amounts of fake sugar content.

Whey protein powder is the most common and the cheapest available in the market. They can be bought from the supplement retailers or grocery stores. They are also rich in vitamins and minerals. It is dairy based and is good for gym goers, athletes and is best used after workouts. Casein is also a dairy product, but is less common as compared to whey. It is mostly recommended for situations where the slow release of nutrients is necessary like just before bed.

Pea products are common and are good for muscle building and general physiques. For vegetarians, soybeans are a good source of all essential amino acids. Other than for muscle building, soy contains compounds that reduce the risk of cancer and a number of cardiovascular diseases.

The other common varieties are those that are hemp based, brown rice based, vegan (peas, rice, hemp, quinoa and more varieties), and several others. All those are either plant or animal products. As such, it pays to carefully read and select those that are natural as they have more health benefits. The good variety of powder also taste better and are easier to ingest.
