Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These are the food items that should give us the energy and protein we need. They help our bodies remain balanced without infusing a bunch of calories that we will need to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize however that a few of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could even be making you gain additional fat! Here are some of the foods which may be undermining your diet efforts.

Sports Drinks do not truly help you. You've almost certainly been told that if you need to help your body replenish itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most doctors will tell you, though, that if your exercise routine isn't going to go over ninety minutes then you should be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are rich in calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural plus healthy diet. Choose chocolate milk for your beverage instead. The suscrose inside the chocolate can help your muscles start to heal and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip the protein shakes. So many people assume that having a protein shake is a good way to end cravings when it isn't meal time. The truth of the matter is that when you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake really does is overload your system with protein. No matter what others imagine, protein is not stored in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.



Pre-packaged deli meat seriously isn't as good for you as you may think. You may imagine that a sandwich made of whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. The simple fact is that pre-packaged deli meat is crammed full of preservatives and also about a third of your suggested daily sodium intake. This could be particularly problematic if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, choose home cooked chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a lot of things that we think will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for instance is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask your physician which things are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are very careful about what you eat and therefore are good to your system, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
