What To Expect From Arlington Senior Care

By Marissa Velazquez

Arlington senior care has many types of assistance for people over sixty five. Most of these people do not consider themselves elderly and unless something drastic occurs, will not avail themselves of the services. In the event they find that they are in need of these services they will find that there is ample support here to get them back to normal quickly.

The first level of assistance that is commonly available is non-medical assistance performed in the home of a potential client. The assistance usually associated with this would include housekeeping, errands, shopping and some cooking and perhaps feeding assistance. This is the most affordable of all levels and usually the most accessible for consumers.

Adult day centers are a valuable resource for families whose elders are not incapable of caring for themselves but who may be showing the first signs of dementia or other neurological issues such as Parkinson's disease, MS or Alzheimer's. Adult day centers assist by entertaining the client while family members work or tend to other obligations. The centers usually have a bus that will pick up the client and bring them home at the end of each day.

Next would be an in home nursing attendant who lives with or rotates shifts with other attendants to cover the waking hours of their client. The duties are much the same as non-medical but more personal in treatment. Medications are part of this job description as well as bathing, dressing, feeding and assistance with any mobility issues that may be present.

In an assisted living facility the residents have maid service, laundry service, transportation to appointments and shopping and they have meals prepared for them in the main dining room. The staff includes social workers, nurses, physical therapists and a social activities director. The goal here is to be certain that all of a residents ADL's are taken care of and they can enjoy the golden years of their lives.

There is usually a memory wing attached to the buildings of assisted living facilities. The residents, once established in the facility can age in place by changing levels of support as the need arises. The memory wing is a locked wing but there are hospice wings and temporary skilled nursing facilities as well that are not locked.

There are also hospice facilities that are independent of other affiliations. The Medicare system pays for six months of hospice support for persons who have cancer or other terminal diseases and have been given six months to live. Some hospice services come to the home of the patient while other services have their own facilities. If your loved one is at home during this time the support nurse will come there and relieve you for several hours so you can have some respite from the daily work of caring for your family member.

Arlington senior care offers a full spectrum of services and all levels of support for the client and their families. Many of these services are partially or fully paid for by Medicare and Medicaid. For persons who wish to remain living independently there are housing programs sponsored by HUD that offer reduced rental costs. The seniors in this city need not worry about assistance options available to them.
