Drinking Water Testing Is Becoming Increasing Important

By Minnie Whitley

The quality of water sources has continuously decreased over the last few years due to urbanization and industrialization. As a result drinking water testing should never be ignored. There are a lot of factors that affect the quality of H2O as it is transported from the sources. Some of them are ageing systems of supply, direct contamination at the source and nature of plumbing in our homes.

It is impossible to determine if H2O is safe for taking by merely looking at it. This is because factors that people should be keen on to determine quality are visible other are invisible. Also some are obvious while others require a test. As a result professionals in aquatic matters need to be on watch to prevent disease outbreaks triggered by taking contaminated H2O. Due to the fact that homesteads are many, the professionals can enlighten the public; provide free plumbing audit water testing.

It is a concern that some people claim to determine the quality of their drinking H2O. This involves mere observations and using senses which may not be reliable. This is because senses can only identify those impurities that are visible, those that have unappetizing taste and smelly. For instance the presence of sulfur or excess chlorine is determined by a pungent rotten smell.

Contaminated H2O causes various health symptoms. These effects range from slight to severe ones like diarrhea and cramps. The intensity of the health effects due to drinking H2O is determined by amount of harmful chemicals or contaminants present in the water, length of time they have been present, and the quantity of such water taken.

Testing the quality of drinking H2O should be taken with the weight it deserves especially among people using private sources such as springs, wells and cisterns. Private sources should be tested regularly by the users. There are several reasons why testing has been emphasized more on private supplies. Some of the main reasons include the fact that there are no government programs and agencies charged with the responsibility of monitoring the quality of private H2O supplies. Due to this factor owners should realize it is their duty to determine if the source is safe and maintain the quality.

It should be noted that most of the public supplies have never been tested. It is critical that people be exposed to the importance of water testing and the risk of not doing so. Most of the countries have made the service convenient and economical for its citizens. Over the recent years laboratory H2O analysis institutions have been throughout the countries bringing the service closer to people.

Mere observation is not enough; carrying out a test is the only way to be certain about the safety of drinking water. This is because some of the pollutants are not visible and some of the health effects caused by contaminated H2O may not be instant. Some these effects are only noticeable after a long period of time.

Looking at water and concluding it is safe for consumption is absolutely wrong and should be discouraged. Past tests and carrying out analyses are the only two reasons that should make one confident that water is safe for drinking. If one realizes that H2O has a strange smell, taste or color, they should keep off the source until a test is conducted.
